Look Hither!
I met an angel today. Draped in black chiffon, she seemed from another world. I sat beside her in the train on my way home. She crossed her long legs to give me some more space. I did not look up from my book. Vaguely said "thanks". She asked me what I was reading. I was annoyed, but answered and for the first time looked at her face. An apricot smile was clinging to her beautiful face. Needless to say, I do not normally notice females (Ha!). But this one struck me oddly. There was something unsettling about her. Out of nowhere, she shot - "I love Indian food. The pyramid pies you guys eat!". Whatttt?? Oh, she was referring to samosa. I chuckled. She brushed her braids off her face and told me that she was a Nigerian. I nodded. She blurted out - "It feels like a fish-bowl here in New York, you know. No one speaks to you and just swims past". I couldn't help but agree to the fish-bowl part. She flashed another of those brilliant smiles. Bolt! The train stopped. She stood up - "This is me, beautiful." And, she had left before I was barely conscious of her being.
(These lines from "Wish you were here" reminds me of her)
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears,
wish you were here.
